The adsorption characteristics of activated carbon are determined not only by its pore structure but also by its chemical composition. There are two types of impurities in activated carbon. However, there are many factors that affect the effectiveness of water treatment. In terms of activated carbon itself, the main influencing factors are pore structure and surface groups. Only when the pore diameter / adsorbate molecular diameter > 1.7, its pore volume is the most effective, its highest utilization occurs in the range of 1.7 < pore diameter / adsorbate molecular diameter <3. As the D/d value increases, the pore volume utilization decreases. At the same time, the pore diameter should be selected according to the different regeneration methods. If it is selected for desorption (such as solvent recovery) or heating regeneration (if the adsorbed material is easily decomposed by heat), it is appropriate to choose D/d=36; In the regeneration process, and the adsorbed material is decomposed into smaller sizes due to the action of the regenerating agent, and D/d can be selected in the range of 1.73 when it is difficult to be adsorbed by the activated carbon.
In the application of exhaust gas and harmful gas adsorption, according to different functions, activated carbon can be divided into desulfurization carbon, solvent recovery carbon, deodorization carbon, ozone purification carbon, gasoline recovery carbon and the like.
